Please be patient with me, as I have only seen the anime, so I will only be referring to that and the few pages of the manga I've seen.
Now without further ado, what I was supposed to show you!
But they're five years apart! Doesn't that make Ikuto a pedophile?
No, it doesn't.
And in fact, there are many middle schoolers who have boyfriends in high school. I know a girl who's 14, and has a 19 year old boyfriend. There are many married couple who have a bigger age difference than 5 years, even my parents are 7 years apart.
And if you're thinking maturity levels, Amu has taken care of her toddler sister Ami on many occasions, and has been a very responsible big sister to her. On Ikuto's side, he has acted like and even admitted to being a child.
They are enemies and they fight a lot!
In this case, I think "fight" is the wrong word...
I believe that you're referring to Ikuto teasing Amu, and her reacting angrily.
You do remember Amu's "Cool & Spicy" label, correct? As much as she is happy and perky like most anime heroines, she is also severely stubborn.
This kind of "fighting" is common in anime and manga, TV, and even kid's cartoons. Have you ever heard someone on a show say "Get a room"? That type of comment is usually a response to one of these "fights". Sure, it doesn't make sense, but neither does love now, does it?
As for them being enemies, they sure seem to care about each other an awful lot if they are. Have you ever noticed how Ikuto is always making up for the mistakes made by himself, Utau, and even Yoru? And also rescuing Amu's charas, and protecting her from Nikaidou-sensei and the fight against Easter.
Ikuto doesn’t love Amu…He just teases her.
Well if he is just teasing her, he's doing it in a pretty romantic way, wouldn't you say?
He was also pretty jealous when Tadase confessed to Amu, and upset when she didn't believe him when he told her that he loved her. If he didn't actually love her, and was just saying it to trick her, he would have just laughed in her face.
But we still have the other hand...
Amu doesn’t love Ikuto… She loves Tadase-kun and she even said she hated Ikuto!
For someone who hates Ikuto, she sure seems to care a lot about him. And it's funny that she would be willing to embrace his pain if she hated him so much. And when she said he hated him, that was more out of anger and confusion than actual hatred for him.
And as for Tadase, she only liked him for his princely, nice, king figure. Even if she had thought she liked Tadase enough to be in a relationship with him, it wouldn't've lasted long, as that pairing as a whole is, simply put, shallow.
BUT WAIT! What about Utau, Tadase, and Kairi!? We have to take their feelings into account as well!
Simply put, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. But seeing as this is going into no detail whatsoever, I'll shall collaborate on the affected characters:
Utau
While Utau did have deep feelings for her brother, they are shown in an unrequited and sometimes comedic way several times.
Also, the whole point of the Dia Going to Utau arc was to show that she can have a life beyond Ikuto. If she was going to end up with him, why would that plot line have even been there?
Plus, you can't forget that her chapter in Encore is dedicated to her and Kukai in a romantic sense.
Tadase
From day one, you could tell that he and Amu weren't going to be together, and even if they were, it wouldn't have been for long, as, like I said before, it's a shallow relationship.
Kairi
This is much like Utau. Yes, he has feelings for Amu, but feelings alone doesn't guarantee a relationship.
While Kairi's crush on Amu surely does not limit his ability to grow as a person, it will probably limit his chance to be involved with any other girl. This affects character development, indirectly.
And again, much like Utau, he shares a chapter in Encore with another character who, technically, could be considered a love interest. Yaya.
Pink and Yellow make a Peach color and since the authors are Peach-Pit…
My word, this is getting ridiculous...
It's great you know about art and stuff, but what does this have to do with our discussion?
But it’s such a cliché pairing!
Better cliché than shallow.
Technically, Amuto is not canon at the end of the manga.
And neither is is Tadamu, Ikutau, or Kamuri. What's your point?
Besides, Peach-Pit could always use them in another series as a couple. Or maybe they won't.
Concluding note
I don't mind if you do not support Amuto, or if you like another ship such as Tadamu or Ikutau, but I really can not tolerate the bashing of it, with these reasons or any other. If you don't like it, fine, but don't go out of your way to call us Amuto fans pedos. Because we're not.
I really agree with you since I am an Amuto fan and all the reasons you gave are correct/logical. :3 I do know that people tend to bash on AMUTO and it gets me mad. Since this couple/pairing is very unique and makes the most sense in the series. There has also been conformation that Peach-pit had planned to have the Amuto pairing from the beginning when they first started. I am really happy to read these reasons because these are the main ones that many anti-amuto give and I hate it becuase they simply do not see the reasoning.
